A few weekends ago before my summer break ended Joey surprised me with a staycation. He told me ahead of time that he reserved us a room for two nights in Orlando.
My parents live in Orlando and he also had it planned for them to watch Ava for us while we were gone. Our fur baby Georgia had stayed at the Pet Resort in Lakeland so it was a vacation for everyone! When we pulled up to the hotel I was so excited to see that we were staying at Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort. I am a huge fan of the 50's and 60's and the theme of this resort is completely retro. I felt like I was in an episode of the Astronaut Wives.
They didn't have any rooms with a king size bed so we took two queens instead.
I love our baby girl but I was so happy to have a weekend getaway with Joey.
When we first arrived we walked around the resort and stopped by the arcade room to play a few games.
I loved how even the soap was packaged old school style.
After that we headed back to our room to get ready for our dinner date. I think that was the first time in a long time that I spent the time to truly get ready and all dolled up. It felt good!
My handsome date!
We had reservations for the Texas De Brazil restaurant in Orlando.
There they give you this little chip. Green means you are ready for some food and on the other side it's red to signal you don't need any food at the moment. They have several servers walking around with different cuts of meat. Anything from beef, pork, chicken, lamb, sausage, and more. If they see your chip is on green they will come by and serve you. When you have enough meat you flip your chip to red. When you are ready to get some more you flip it back to green. You can do this as long as you want until your belly is full! They also have a huge salad bar and a little area to grab some sides to go with your meat. It was definitely a fun experience. Both Joey and I were proud of ourselves because we didn't over eat. We had just enough to enjoy it but not walk away miserably full.
After dinner we headed back to the hotel to go swimming in the pools at the resort and then off we went to play a round of Putt Putt Golf. This was kind of a big deal for us because it was around 11:00 pm and we were still awake! Usually we are in bed by 9:00pm.
,The next morning we got up around 8:00 am which is sleeping in for us, considering Ava wakes up at 6:00am. We grabbed some breakfast at the hotel and then headed to the resort's lazy river. The resort has two pools. One has a lazy river next to it and the other has a fun water slide. We went back and forth between the two pools.
At first I thought that you just rent them but then I found out that you actually buy them! I was so excited when I found out I get to take the float home.
After a few laps around the lazy river and several trips down the slide it was time for our 80 minute massages. That was probably the best massage I have ever had.
Then we had some lunch at a Peruvian Restaurant where I had this delicious salad. It was packed with so many yummy flavors!
Afterwards we headed back to the hotel. Joey took a nap and I laid by the pool with my book in one hand and a frozen adult beverage in the other. It was paradise. Between people watching and taking dips in the pool, I finally got to page 63 of the book I had been trying to read all summer long. Joey came down after his nap to join me before we headed on to our next adventure.
The Blue Man Group! This was our first time seeing the Blue Man Group and we had a great time.
For dinner that night we ate at Cowfish, a sushi burger bar. We ordered a delicious grab rangoon dip for an appetizer and then two of their unique and very tasty sushi rolls. One was a cheeseburger roll and the other one had steak, crab, and lobster in it.
We had plans after dinner to go to Pat O'Briens. However, as it got closer to 8:00pm we decided we just wanted to go back to the hotel and relax in the room and that's exactly what we did. The next morning we spent some more time in the lazy river and went down the slide a few more times before heading to my parents house to pick Ava up.
Our staycation was so wonderful and very much needed! It's easy as parents to get wrapped up with parenting and the crazy busy times of life. For this weekend we were able to relax and just enjoy each other's company. We truly enjoyed it and the quality time we had together. I am already looking forward to the next one...whenever that is.
